Recipe for a Ugly Week

Mix:

  • 8 parts pride
  • 5 parts impatience
  • 6 pages of “to do” list
  • 30 hours lost sleep
  • 2 parts “you can’t always get what you want”
  • 4 parts pseudo-ADHD
  • 1 foolish prayer for humility and growth
  • 9 parts lost control
  • 15 parts conviction

Marinate 1 sulky graduate student for several weeks, then cook at “No Alone Time” (Farenheit) until she cracks.

I’m finding a great deal of truth in the comment by my dear friend Chelsea: “Praying for humility is like praying that you’ll have a terrible day.”

But please don’t pity me or in any way feed my propensity toward self-pity.

This is good. I’ve been getting spiritually obese of late, a regular 21st century Pharisee. Praise the Lord that He loves me enough to knock me off my complacent high horse. Spirit, please help me submit as many times as it takes, for as long as it takes.

“How He Loves,” by David Crowder

“He is jealous for me, loves like a hurricane, I am a tree,
Bending beneath the weight of his wind and mercy.
When all of a sudden, I am unaware of these afflictions eclipsed by glory,
And I realize just how beautiful You are,
And how great Your affections are for me.

And oh, how He loves us oh
Oh how He loves us,
How He loves us all

He is jealous for me, Loves like a hurricane, I am a tree,
Bending beneath the weight of his wind and mercy.
When all of a sudden, I am unaware of these afflictions eclipsed by glory,
And I realize just how beautiful You are,
And how great Your affections are for me.

And oh, how He loves us oh,
Oh how He loves us,
How He loves us all

He loves us,
Oh how He loves us,
Oh how He loves us,
Oh how He loves.

And we are His portion and He is our prize,
Drawn to redemption by the grace in His eyes,
If His grace is an ocean, we’re all sinking.
And heaven meets earth like an unforeseen kiss,
And my heart turns violently inside of my chest,
I don’t have time to maintain these regrets,
When I think about, the way…

That He loves us,
Oh how He loves us,
Oh how He loves us,
Oh how He loves.
Yeah, He loves us,
Oh how He loves us,
Oh how He loves us,
Oh how He loves.

Yeah, He loves us,
Oh how He loves us,
Oh how He loves us,
Oh how He loves.
